Bengaluru apartment reports 10 positive cases

BENGALURU: A new Covid-19 cluster outbreak appears to be brewing in Bellandur, Bengaluru, as 10 cases were reported from an apartment complex over the past week.
The first case at SJR Watermark Apartments, Ambalipura, was registered on February 15, when a 55-year-old woman complained of Covid-19 symptoms. She took a Covid test at a private lab and the samples tested positive. The apartment is spread over nine blocks and houses about 1,500 residents.
“Of the 10 people who have been infected, most are above 55 years of age and are symptomatic, but we are prepared for any contingency,” said Dr Surendhra R, BBMP health officer, Mahadevapura.
The infections are spread over six blocks and the apartment complex has been declared a containment zone. The three other blocks which have not reported a single case are located about 200 metres away from the other six.
The Mahadevapura health officer has deployed nine mobile teams and has taken 500 RT-PCR samples which have been sent to a private lab for testing. Results are awaited.
“We are sanitising all the apartments and the premises. A special health team which includes four doctors has been deployed,” said N Manjunatha Prasad, BBMP commissioner.
Members of the apartment’s resident welfare association refused to comment.
