KOLKATA: The CBI on Friday conducted searches at more than 10 locations in Purulia, Bankura, Burdwan and Kolkata in connection with the coal mining scam. The agency has also secured permission to make Trinamool Congress leader Vinay Mishra appear in court next month.
In Durgapur, a CBI team reached the house of a private bank employee on Gurudwara Road. At Balitora in Purulia, a CBI team carried out a search at the residence of a person close to Anup Maji, the prime accused who is on the run. In Bankura, premises of a steel factory were searched. Searches were also conducted at the office of the steel company in Kolkata.
The agency, meanwhile, moved the special CBI court, seeking permission to produce TMC leader Mishra who is believed to have played roles in both the coal scam and cross-border cattle racket. Mishra has not responded to CBI notices in the past. The special court asked him to appear before it on March 22.
The CBI had registered the FIR in November last year against Maji and Eastern Coalfields general managers Amit Kumar Dhar (of then Kunustoria area and now Pandaveswar area) and Jayesh Chandra Rai (Kajora area), besides ECL chief of security Tanmay Das, Kunustoria area security inspector Dhananjay Rai and Kajora SSI and security in-charge Debashish Mukherjee.
