Doc kills wife, 2 sons before hanging self

NASHIK: A BAMS doctor hanged himself after killing his wife and their two sons, apparently by injecting them with some poisonous substance, at their residence at Rashin village in Karjat taluka of Ahmednagar district on the night intervening Friday and Saturday.
The doctor, Mahindra Thorat (47), has left a suicide note stating that he and his wife, Varsharani (42), decided to take the extreme step because they could not bear with the continued suffering of their 16-year-old son, Krushna, who was hearing impaired, said police. Police identified the other boy as Kaivalya. “The incident came to light on Saturday morning, when the staff at the doctor’s hospital went to his house to check why he did not turn up at the facility,” said PI Chandrakant Yadav of the Karjat police station. The officer said the doctor, known for his helpful nature in Rashin village, has expressed remorse over his extreme step and stated in the suicide that his property should be sold off and the money donated to any institute that is working for people with hearing impairment.
“Prima facie it appears that he injected his wife and two children with some poisonous medicine that caused their death. Things will, however, be clear only after the postmortem report arrives,” said Yadav.
“According to the suicide note, Krushna faced humiliation due to his hearing impairment but never expressed it to his parents, thus making them more sad,” added the officer. The officer said the doctor, known for his helpful nature in Rashin village, has expressed remorse over his extreme step and stated in the suicide that his property should be sold off and the money donated to any institute that is working for people with hearing impairment.
