The deceased were identified as Raj Kumar (28), a resident of Ujyarapurwa, and his friend Ravi (27), a resident of Parmiyapurwa, police said.
Tension gripped the area after the double murder, prompting the authorities to rush heavy police force to ease the situation.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
Police sources said a group of nearly a dozen men led by a local Shivam allegedly stabbed and shot dead Raj Kumar, a painter and his friend Ravi, a driver, to death late on Friday night in the Ujiyaripurwa.
Raj Kumar’s friend Ravi, a resident of neighbouring Parmiyapurwa, had come to meet him late Friday evening.
Later, Raj Kumar along with Ravi had left his home to his nearby fields.
“It was while they were on their way back, Shivam, his friends Vikas, Vishal and Aakash and their associates waylaid them and attacked the duo with sharp edged weapons and started firing. They fled thereafter,” said police.
The aggrieved families have lodged an FIR at Nawabganj police station against Akash alias Akka, Vikas alias Vikka, Shivam, Vishal, Deepu and several other unidentified people, the SP said.
