Salem: Mutton, fish markets to remain shut on Sundays

SALEM: The Salem city municipal corporation (SMC) commissioner N Ravichandran on Saturday ordered to close all mutton and fish markets in the city limits on all Sundays, starting tomorrow, until further notice.
“We have taken this decision as part of the preventive measures to control the spread of virus,” he said.
The commissioner further said that more than 500 meat and fish shops were functioning in the city limits. People gathered at these shops in huge numbers on all days.
“People do not maintain social distance while buying meat,” he said and added that they were not wearing masks too.
“We have insisted shop owners to give maintain two-meter distance between each person and meat will not be given to anyone who violated the social distancing norm or did not wear masks,” he said.
The commissioner appealed to the people to cooperate with SMC.
